Learn the difference between an SR22 and an FR44

Are you a high-risk driver in Farmville, VA? If you have a DUI on your driving record or have caused multiple accidents, you are classified as a high-risk driver and might require additional auto insurance protection. SR-22 and FR-44 come to effect when dealing with such drivers.

The two come as special filings attached to your car insurance and aim to show that you have sufficient coverage required in your state. If you have SR-22 or FR-44, then your driving behaviors are wanting.

But do many people even know about the existence of the two policies? If this is your first time hearing about them, Gantt Agency is here to provide more information about the policies. Read on to understand the difference.

SR-22 Insurance

When you’re a high-risk driver with an SR-22, it means your auto insurance carries some extra coverage. The insurer notifies the DMV that you’re insured and fit to drive on the road.

In case the policy expires, the insurer is also required to report to the DMV. Carrying SR-22 will likely see you pay higher premiums than others due to the high risk of filing claims. SR-22 is not a type of insurance but rather a notice that you’re insured in case of liability.

FR-44 is similar to SR-22 but mainly used for DUI offenders. If you’re charged with DUI, then you’ll certainly need FR-44. Unlike SR-22, FR-44 requires that your auto coverage limit be at least $100,000. The argument behind it is that drunk drivers are likely to commit repeat offenses.

Do You Need SR-22 or FR-44?

Reckless driving is no fun, and we advise that you should avoid it at all costs. However, if you’ve found yourself in trouble already, there’s no need to dig deeper. Get yourself some protection.
